NCB Book Discussion: Playground by Richard Powers In-Person

Four lives converge: Twelve-year-old Evie sinks to the bottom of a swimming strapped to one of the first aqualungs. Ina grows up on naval bases with art as her only home. Polar opposites at an elite Chicago high school bond over a three-thousand-year-old board game; Rafi gets lost in literature, while Todd's work leads to a startling AI breakthrough. They meet on the history-scarred island of Makatea in French Polynesia. The tiny atoll has been chosen for humanity's next adventure: a plan to send floating, autonomous cities out onto the open sea. But first, the island's residents must vote to greenlight the project or turn the seasteaders away.

Books are available at each meeting for the following month, or you can check out a library copy.                        All are welcome to join our casual, friendly, lively discussions.
