SciFi and Fantasy Book Club: Sea of Tranquility by Emily St. John Mandel

SciFi and Fantasy Book Club: Sea of Tranquility by Emily St. John Mandel In-Person

Join us on the last Thursday of every month to discuss science fiction and fantasy titles from across both genres! We will be reading a variety of titles and exploring different subgenres and topics, from space operas across galaxies to magic in other realms to dystopian futures.

Due to Thanksgiving falling on the last Thursday of November, the meeting will be held the Thursday prior.

This month's book will be Sea of Tranquility by Emily St. John Mandel. When Edwin St. Andrew is transported from the Canadian wilderness in 1912 to an airship filled with violin music, the experience is shocking and transformativebut not unique. A young woman experiences something similar again in 1994 and it even appears in a scene of Olive Llewellyn's best selling novel in the year 2203. It's unclear what has made the anomaly or what connects these individuals across centuries, but Detective Gaspery Robert's investigation across time will soon lead to questions of reality itself. Mandel's latest novel combines science fiction, with ever familiar pandemic imagery to create a narrative of humanity and what connects us.

Pick up a copy from the North County Reference Desk or at our meeting on 10/30!
