Restoring Riparian Habitats with Native Plants (Sierra Club Presentation)

Restoring Riparian Habitats with Native Plants (Sierra Club Presentation) In-Person

Join Robert Lucas, Restoration Coordinator at Raritan Headwaters (RHA) on how to restore riparian buffers with native trees and shrubs. Robert will share his extensive experience planting thousands of native species in degraded riparian zones and offer practical tips for homeowners who want to restore water-adjacent habitats on their own properties. Discover how native plants can help build resilient ecosystems that thrive in the face of climate change. Robert will also touch on the Town of Clintons plans to restore habitats along the South Branch, a project supported by a recent grant. He will discuss the importance of riparian habitats for native plant restoration and provide guidance on protecting plants from deer browse and other herbivores, selecting the best species, and ensuring the long-term health of restored areas. Robert joined Raritan Headwaters in 2022 as the Restoration Coordinator. Before this, he served as the Stewardship Coordinator for the Sourland Conservancy, focusing on reforestation of riparian zones and upland forest communities within the Sourland Mountain region.

A meet & Greet will precede each talk. Hunterdon Warren of the Sierra Club.  Meetings at NCB are open to all, so feel free to sign up or drop in! Refreshments will be available.
