Intro to : Pottery Wheel

Intro to : Pottery Wheel In-Person

If you are new to the pottery wheel, register for a one-to-one beginner instruction lesson that will include wedging, centering and pulling clay on the wheel.  In addition to practicing the core skills of throwing on the wheel, we will also guide you through important makerspace procedures.  These procedures include recycling clay, and maintaining a clean workspace after using the wheel. Understanding these procedures is crucial for protecting the makerspace equipment from excess dust.

To get you started, we will provide you with two pounds of clay as part of the lesson. Additional clay can be purchased at a cost of $5 per pound. Along with the clay, we also offer an assortment of Amaco underglazes, glazes, firings, and access to ceramic tools—all included in the lesson.

Pottery can take multiple visits to complete if you wish to trim the bottom and apply a glaze after the bisque firing.

After this lesson you will be certified allowing you to register on-line to use the pottery wheel during Makerspace Open hours.
